"Song of Solomon"
Book Release Celebration
Willie Morris Library and Rose Hill Baptist Church
Jackson, MS and Smithdale, MS
July 10-11, 2010
The July 10th event commemorating the release of Song of Solomon was an outstanding production, and it celebrated more than the unveiling of the book itself.  It was organized and hosted jointly by Savvy Book Club and Books and Beignets (BAB) Book Club and came with free admission, a buffet lunch, a live remote with Hallelujah 95.5 FM (Nikki Dulaney), and live entertainment. The special music guest for the afternoon was Stellar Award winning gospel legend, Melvin Williams of The Williams Brothers, who ministered in song to the attending supporters, and then gave free autographed CDs to every person that purchased a copy of Song of Solomon

Author, Kendra Norman-Bellamy, had a few unexpected revelations of her own for the event's featured entertainer, who is also her all-time favorite gospel artist. Melvin was pleasantly surprised at the announcement that the featured book, Song of Solomon, was not only dedicated to his honor, but the lead male character in the story, Dr. Neil Solomon Taylor, was also inspired by him. Then to cap off the surprises, Melvin was presented with a cake that honored his 57th birthday, which he would officially celebrate on July 21st.

Saturday's release event was followed by an impromptu book signing in Smithdale, MS at  Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor Oliver Smith) where Kendra visited and fellowshipped on Sunday, July 11th. Rose Hill Baptist is the church home of gospel music legends, The Williams Brothers and The Jackson Southernaires.
